(AP) -- CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina State Ports Authority says it has posted its best quarter for container volume in two years.
The authority board was told Tuesday that volume for the third quarter was up 18 percent over 2009 and was up slightly from the previous quarter.
Authority president and CEO Jim Newsome says two new shipping services to Asia began at the Port of Charleston earlier this year.
He says there has been growth in refrigerated cargo and agricultural products as well. Newsome says more than 20,000 companies across the nation use Charleston to reach overseas markets.
