Congressional candidate Tim Scott made an appearance on the Grand Strand, Thursday.
The South Strand Republicans Club hosted Scott at Renaissance Bistro near Myrtle Beach. Scott is running for the 1st Congressional District, the seat held now by the retiring Henry Brown. That district includes Charleston, Georgetown and Horry counties.
Scott says he supports I-73 as a necessary part of infrastructure, and a way to attract jobs. He says there are two things that must be done to put people back to work.
"#1 is quit spending money we don't have. That is the most important thing that we can do as a federal government to let business thrive - is to get out of their pockets," Scott said.
He said #2 is to eliminate red tape slowing the growth of businesses. Scott is a state representative from the Charleston area. He could become the first black Republican in more than a century to be elected to the US House from South Carolina.
However, he'll have to first beat Democratic candidate Ben Frasier in November.
