After more than a year of being closed, the Georgetown steel mill is slated to re-open.
15 months ago, the mill shut down and hundreds lost jobs.
Arcelor-Mittal is in the process of re-opening. The union leader says about 25 people returned Monday to start safety training. The employees will be brought back in waves, though only about 245 of the roughly 350 workers will return.
The president of the steel workers union says the mill being shut has had serious economic impacts. "The overall impact of this plant being down has taken a toll on the overall economy. It's a domino effect, and therefore it hit... it compounded the loss of a lot of jobs here in Georgetown," said James Sanderson.
Sanderson said the economy is improving and confidence in the steel market played a big role in the re-opening.
