(AP) -- HICKORY, N.C. (AP) - Police in North Carolina are looking for a hearing-impaired 10-year-old girl who went missing over the weekend, and the girl's stepmother has been arrested on unrelated charges.
Zahra Clare Baker was reported missing Saturday afternoon in Hickory in western North Carolina. She has a prosthetic left leg from the knee down and police say she doesn't have her hearing aids with her.
Her father and stepmother told police they last saw her sleeping in her bed. Investigators say they have been interviewed about her disappearance.
A police spokesman says Elisa Baker was arrested Sunday on more than a dozen charges including communicating threats and writing worthless checks in unrelated cases. There was no telephone listing for the Bakers.
