MONTGOMERY, ALA. (AP) -- A new documentary film tells the story of a young Wisconsin man who was bullied all through middle school and high school because he was gay.
Jamie Nabozny sued the school district over his harassment and wound up winning a $900,000 judgment in 1996.
SPLC officials say there have been at least nine cases in the past three years of teenagers killing themselves after being bullied because they were gay or they were perceived as being gay.
The 40-minute film, "Bullied," premiered Tuesday in Washington, D.C. The film, directed by Bill Brummel and Geoffrey Sharp, was made as part of the SPLC's "Teaching Tolerance" program and will be shown to school children across the country.
