COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Women and men killed in domestic violence incidents are being honored in a ceremony at South Carolina's Statehouse.

Attorney General Henry McMaster is participating in the 13th annual Silent Witness Domestic Violence ceremony Tuesday in Columbia.

McMaster says a bell will be rung once for each person. Friends and family members gathering on the Statehouse steps are holding up life-sized silhouettes representing victims, and another silhouette represents unknown victims.

The event is part of National Domestic Violence Month. McMaster says seeing how many people are affected by the crimes in South Carolina is important in trying to reduce domestic violence statewide. Last year, 32 men and women were remembered.
