Georgetown County schools will also start using metal detectors this week.
Superintendent Randy Dozier says the school district received a federal grant to buy 8 walk-through, and 16 hand-held metal detectors that will be used on a random basis at middle and high schools.
He says it's too time consuming and labor intensive to use them every day.
Dozier says the district has been planning to do this for months and it's unrelated to last Tuesday's shooting at Socastee High School.
