One year after the fatal life care helicopter crash, Horry County is honoring the victims. This afternoon a memorial plaque was unveiled at the Conway Horry County Airport. The daughter of one of the victims helped in the unveiling. The Carolina Life Care Omni flight chopper crashed in Georgetown County.
The crash killed 45-year-old Patrick Walters of Murrells Inlet, 42-year-old flight nurse Diana Conner of Florence and 39-year-old paramedic Randolph Claxton Dove, who was from Bladenboro, N.C.
One of their co-workers spoke today and says he never knew what "never forget" really meant until he lost his friends, "the friends and the family that you have gathered and made over your lifetime, you need to enjoy them because all it takes is a split second to see them gone, says JoJo Turbeville.
The chopper crashed during bad weather just a mile from the Georgetown County Airport. A preliminary report by federal investigators said the chopper lacked safety equipment recommended by the national transportation safety board. A final report on what caused the crash has still not been released.
