Given recent threatening posts on social media websites, many parents are concerned about the popularity of the online arena. Websites like Facebook and Twitter have millions of users and many of them are underage.
Sachi Baird is the mother of two children and she strictly monitors her 12-year-olds use of social media sites. In her home the computer is set up in the living room, he can only be online for an hour a day and if necessary she'll delete friends on his page if they are posting inappropriate comments.
"He has told me that he feels like it's me being judgmental and I've told him that I can see his point that I understand that from his perspective it looks like I have a closed mind but I'm protecting my child," says Baird.
"Parents it's good for them especially with younger children make them aware that what they're putting out there can be permanent they have very little control with what stays out there once it's out there," says John Watts, a librarian at CCU.
Experts also say some people are more brazen online because they feel protected in their own cyber world.
