BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- It appears three chambers of commerce won't get all the money they wanted to lure visitors to South Carolina's southern coast.
The Beaufort Gazette reports the chambers wanted a total of $665,000 in county accommodations tax money for tourism advertising.
The taxes on prepared food and drinks are typically spent on parks and public services.
A county council committee has recommended only $200,000 in hospitality funds be made available.
The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce were originally seeking the tax money.
The committee recommends the Hilton Head Chamber receive $35,000; the Beaufort chamber $28,000 and the black chamber $5,000.
The rest would be available to any organizations that apply.
