COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Former University of South Carolina President Andrew Sorensen is moving to Ohio State University to become the school's chief fundraiser.

The State newspaper reported Thursday that Sorensen will start his new job Oct. 5 Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee says Sorensen will find new ways to secure a strong financial foundation for the school.

Sorensen says he's known Gee for years.

Sorensen retired as USC president in 2008 and was on the faculty in the medical school.

Some questioned his role in the university's plan to expand its medical school to Greenville. Sorensen said he was just continuing his work building relationships with Greenville Memorial Hospital.

USC has said the Greenville medical school would not cost taxpayers.
