GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) -- Renovation on a popular attraction on the South Carolina coast has reached the next phase.

City leaders in Georgetown open bids on Tuesday for an estimated $600,000 renovation of the city's harbor walk.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports it will be the first major renovation since the wooden walkway along the city's riverfront was built in the 1980s.

Plans call for new decking, lighting and railings along the walkway that runs along the Sampit River behind buildings in the city's business district.

City leaders hope the facelift will mean more tourists and more business for downtown restaurants and shops.
