Two South Carolina universities are among seven schools nationwide competing for $30 million.

The University of South Carolina and Clemson University are vying for the funding from the U.S. Space and Naval Warfare System Center in Charleston.

The schools are competing for work that will allow the agency to perform research in math, engineering and computer science fields.

The research would translate into communications, cyber security and wireless computer projects.

The funding would be distributed over a six year period.
