DNR conducts boating inspections at Enterprise Landing in Horry County Friday morning.
 / Joel Allen
The SC Department of Natural Resources will be at boat landings statewide throughout the weekend conducting courtesy safety inspections.
Friday, we caught up with DNR officers at Enterprise Landing in the Socastee area of Horry County. They're checking boats heading out onto the Intracoastal Waterway from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
Officers are checking for safety equipment like fire extinguishers and sounding devices, as well as making sure each boat is carrying the right number of life jackets for the number of passengers on board. DNR says more than 90 percent of all boating deaths could be prevented with the proper use of life jackets.
DNR says those who are not in compliance with boating regulations during the courtesy check will not be ticketed for violations, but will need to correct any problems prior to launching their boat.
