(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's Green Party gubernatorial candidates hopes to grab attention by picketing in front of a federal building named after the late Sen. Strom Thurmond.

Morgan Reeves plans to demand Wednesday that Thurmond's name be removed from the building in downtown Columbia as well as most other buildings and parks across the state.

Reeves says there's a direct connection to Thurmond's racist comments more than 60 years ago as he ran for president as a Dixiecrat, and Reeves' treatment as a third-party gubernatorial candidate.

The African-American candidate says he is being discriminated against by not getting the same attention as Republican Nikki Haley and Democrat Vincent Sheheen. Reeves is also upset with black politicians and ministers.
