The South Carolina Organ and Tissue Donor Registry reached a milestone Friday. More than half-a-million people have registered their legal consent to become organ and tissue donors.

You may think if you have that little heart on your driver's license, you're in the registry. But that heart just indicates a desire to become a donor. About 1.2 million South Carolinians have that heart on their license.

The South Carolina Organ and Tissue Donor Registry just launched on December 23, 2008. The majority of other states already had a registry.

If you would like to join the registry, click here. You can also register when you renew or change your South Carolina driver's license or ID.
