Federal authorities have issued new charges against the former sheriff of Lee County.
E.J. Melvin now faces an additional charge of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Melvin has pleaded not guilty to the new charges.
Melvin is already facing other drug conspiracy charges as police say he and two others dealt drugs from 2004 until the ex-sheriff's arrest in May.
His trial is expected to begin in october. If convicted, he faces 10 years to life in prison and a $4 million fine.
