Georgetown County Sheriff's deputies have swarmed a Murrells Inlet neighborhood where a man is barricaded inside his home at 4357 Goude Street near the corner of Old Kings Highway.
At 11pm Wednesday, deputies told NewsChannel 15 they are waiting it out and are in no hurry. They say they want to bring this stand off to a peaceful end.
Around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to the home, but the department's chief deputy wouldn't say why they were called.
A witness said deputies told her the man and his girlfriend got into a fight. She left the home and called 9-1-1.
When deputies got to the house, they discovered an individual who had barricaded himself inside the home, Chief Deputy Carter Weaver said. Just after 4:00 p.m., Weaver addressed neighbors who have been temporarily displaced from surrounding homes, and he apologized for the inconvenience.
Pearline Mills lives across the street from the man who's inside the house, and she said she was surprised. Mills said the man is in the computer business and has lived there for at least 13 years. She said he has had the same girlfriend for the entire time, and they both are "just really nice people."
Mills just had emergency surgery on a broken arm in Charleston and arrived home to find this situation. She wasn't allowed back in her home, and was a little upset because she said she was in a lot of pain.
The chief deputy wouldn't confirm whether anyone else was inside the home, but neighbors say they've heard from deputies that the man is the only one inside. "We have the necessary units on scene to make it come to a peaceful ending," Carter said.
There are at least 20 police cruisers, marked and unmarked, lining parts of Goude Street and Old Kings Highway.
About 7:00 p.m., deputies cut power to the house.
The suspect's name has not been released.
