Lunsford says right now they cannot confirm what the pilot was doing, if he was trying to take off or land.
Georgetown County Sheriff''s Office spokesman Neil Johnson says a small plane crashed about 100 yards off the runway at the Andrews Airport.
The wreckage is located in a heavily wooded area. The pilot was the only person on board the aircraft.
The plane is a single engine, 1946 Stinson.
