(AP) -- AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - A man who printed T-shirts poking fun at South Carolina's zany political scene has swapped shirts with the U.S. Senate candidate who shocked the nation with his primary win.

The Aiken Standard reports Wednesday that Owen Clary of Aiken had 500 T-shirts printed with the words, "We don't make these things up!" over the state's outline. The chairman of the Aiken County Historical Commission says he sent one to Democratic Senate nominee Alvin Greene.

The 32-year-old unemployed military veteran won June 8 with no money and no visible campaign.

Clary says he got a package in return a week later. Inside was a green T-shirt that reads "Greene Senate." Clary says he was shocked but applauded Greene as having a sense of humor.

Greene faces GOP Sen. Jim DeMint in November.
