There has been no plane crash in Darlington County, despite earlier reports of a plane being down.

Originally, emergency officials received reports of a plane down in the area of Highway 401 and Interstate 20 near Lamar.

The county's acting emergency management director said residents reported seeing a low-flying plane around 8:00 p.m., followed by smoke.

The director, Lynnwood Epps, said a command post had been set up at an Exxon convenience store along I-20, but they have cleared the scene.

Epps said it turned out to be a low-flying crop duster, but they're still not sure where the smoke originated.
