Several Myrtle Beach neighborhoods are hosting events in honor of the 27th Annual National Night Out.

Carolina Breeze and Sandygate Village held community kick-off events Tuesday afternoon.

The point of National Night Out is for neighborhoods to come together.

The event is designed to heighten crime awareness and strengthen relationships between communities and police.

David Calderon is the property manager for Sandygate Village. He said they're trying to get people to "interact not only with the children but with the adults and the senior citizens." He's encouraging residents to get familiar with the police and not be afraid to tell them anything about a crime in the area or a good grade on a report card.
