MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) -- Boaters on South Carolina's Lake Moultrie are experiencing delays as a lock between the lake and the Tailrace Canal is out of service.

The lock is to be out of service on Tuesday as engineers determine how to repair a malfunctioning water valve on a local gate.

The problem with the valve means it takes nearly twice as long to lower boats the 75 feet from the lake into the canal which then connects with the Cooper River leading to Charleston.

Public water and electric utility Santee Cooper hopes to have the lock back in service on Wednesday.
