Police have caught a fugitive from Ohio who they say carjacked a woman and robbed a drug store in Horry County Monday morning.
He was caught about 9pm Monday night.
For much of the day, a perimeter was set up along International Drive and Highway 90 as police looked for Robert Michael Barnes.
Police say the 29-year-old carjacked a woman in North Myrtle Beach, robbed a CVS in Myrtle Beach, then led county police on a chase.
Police think Barnes, who is wanted in Ohio, stole the car during a carjacking in North Myrtle Beach at the 2nd Ave North Tiger Mart around 11:00 a.m. North Myrtle Beach officials say Barnes left a van, reported stolen from Ohio, at the Tiger Mart and then drove the carjacked Toyota Avalon across the Robert Edge Parkway.
From there, they believe Barnes robbed a CVS at 38th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach around 12:00 p.m. Myrtle Beach Police Cpt. David Knipes said the suspect stole prescription drugs and then left in the Toyota.
Minutes later, Horry County Police officers spotted the Toyota on Robert Grissom Parkway, and a chase was started. Officers chased the suspect vehicle down Robert Grissom Parkway and onto International Drive, but the officers lost sight of the vehicle.
The stolen car was found in a wooded section of International Drive around 1pm.
