Sunday, August 1st, Myrtle Beach's largest air carrier will begin charging passengers for carry-on bags.
Spirit Airlines will charge $45 paid at the gate or $30 in advance.
The charge will apply to bags in the overhead bin. Items that fit under the seat will still be free.
When the new charge was announced, Spirit's CEO said the airline has reduced its fares by an average of 40 percent, so most customers won't really pay more to fly.
Spirit says the charge should reduce the number of carry-on bags, which will help empty the plane faster after flights.
The airline also charges for checked luggage.
