CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of shooting and killing a man at a nightclub three years ago.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that 24-year-old Derringer Lamont Young of Charleston was convicted Wednesday of shooting two people in front of a North Charleston nightclub in 2007.

Twenty-nine-year-old Maurice Maxwell of Hanahan died at the scene. A second man was wounded.

Prosecutors say the men had argued before Young pulled a gun and fired.

The nightclub closed after the shootings. North Charleston City Council then passed a local law requiring bars and nightclubs to close at 2 a.m.
