MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a California man died on the South Carolina coast when the plane he was flying from Florida crashed.
Deputy Charleston County Coroner Kelly Kraus said Tuesday that 29-year-old Dustin Rabe of Los Gatos, Calif., was killed in the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane came down about 100 yards from the runway at the East Cooper Regional Airport in Mount Pleasant about 2 p.m. Monday.
Kraus said Rabe died of head injuries.
The FAA says the plane took off from Merritt Island, Fla., about noon Monday, heading for Mount Pleasant.
The pilot was alone and had radioed the tower he had the airport in sight just before the crash.
