CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) -- An extradition hearing has been set for a New York man implicated in the 1992 killing of a sailor near a South Carolina naval base.
Thomas Solheim appeared in a wheelchair in a Long Island court Thursday and was held without bail. He was arrested two days ago on a South Carolina fugitive warrant.
Solheim's attorney asked that he receive medical treatment in jail for seizures and be placed on a suicide watch.
Suffolk County District Court Judge Stephen Behar set a July 29 hearing to determine whether the 53-year-old Solheim is the same man wanted by South Carolina authorities.
Solheim is suspected of taking part in the killing of a sailor stationed near a Charleston, S.C., naval base.
