COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A minor party candidate for governor in South Carolina has several arrests for fraudulent checks in his record, along with driving offenses and an assault and battery charge.

State Law Enforcement Division records provided Tuesday show Morgan Bruce Reeves was charged twice in the 1990s with passing fraudulent checks.

A 1994 assault and battery charge was dismissed, and Reeves paid $500 in fines for driving-related offenses.

The arrest record was first reported by the Post and Courier of Charleston. Reeves told the paper he's not ashamed of his past.

Reeves is the Green Party and United Citizens Party candidate and owner of Reeves Group LLC, which clears lots for construction.

The former high school football star played for Michigan State before a brief stint in the NFL.
