Several Blackhawk helicopters with the S.C. Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team ran search and rescue practice missions along the Grand Strand this weekend.
S.C. HART, a search and rescue team comprised of several state agencies, practices several times a year. They chose Myrtle Beach and the Waccamaw River for this weekend's training.
"It's an honor to train with them," said Midway Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Bob Beebe.
On Sunday, Midway Fire Rescue assisted S.C. HART members as they ran practice missions near Sandy Island.
The Blackhawks would be used by S.C. HART in worst-case scenarios, BeeBe said.
"This is more for the specialty type calls in an emergent situation ... something such as a hurricane or flooding or that type of thing," BeeBe said.
"The more they practice, the better they become. So when there is a great emergency and they're needed, they can go right into action and be proficient at what they do," BeeBe said.
