The refund checks are in the mail to bikers who were fined for not wearing helmets in the City of Myrtle Beach.

The State Supreme Court ruled last month that the helmet law was invalid, so the city has sent refund checks to the 141 bikers who paid fines for violating the law.

Each ticket was for $100 and the violations will be expunged from their driving records. The refund payments include 7.25% interest added on. "We weren't required to do an interest payment, but we thought let's make the customer whole. Let's send a little bit of interest back with that as well," said Mark Kruea, Myrtle Beach city spokesman.

Kruea says the interest checks are being sent out separately, starting Friday.

He says the cost of the interest plus postage adds up to around $1,000.
