(AP) -- NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) - Some South Carolina residents are upset that officials have not labeled as a hate crime the shooting of a man who was then dragged for 11 miles.

Multiple media outlets reported several hundred people met in Newberry on Thursday night with law enforcement about the June 2 death of 30-year-old Anthony Hill.

Nineteen-year-old Gregory Collins is charged with murder in Hill's death. Steve Bouknight of Newberry County said dragging a body for 11 miles is a Ku Klux Klan tactic.

Officials say they have not ruled out federal hate crime charges, but say they must finish the investigation before they could add that charge.

Investigators have said Hill and Collins worked together at a turkey processing plant in Newberry. They had been shooting weapons together earlier the day Hill was killed.
