(AP) -- WASHINGTON (AP) - South Carolina Congressman Bob Inglis says too many Republican leaders are going along with what he calls a poisonous "demagoguery" that threatens the party's long-term credibility.

Inglis was defeated in the Republican primary last month by Spartanburg prosecutor Trey Gowdy.

The 12-year lawmaker from Travelers Rest says Sarah Palin's statement that there were 'death panels' included in the health care bill is an example of what he considers the problem. Inglis says voters eventually will turn away from people who prey on their fears.

He says too many leaders are following radio and television personalities and are not leading.

Inglis says that approach is dividing the country into partisan camps, making it difficult for people to work together and find solutions to problems.
