COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley said in April U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson should absolutely not get re-elected after a 2008 Wall Street bailout vote.
But her campaign said Thursday she now supports his re-election.
It's a sign of the reality Republican conservatives are facing after the primary as they temper anger over the bailout and anti-incumbent sentiment with the chance of sending Democrat Rob Miller to Washington to replace Wilson.
Wilson has served since 2001 and says his entire record should be taken into context. He says legislators who voted for the bailout didn't get what was promised.
Miller has been talking up the bailout vote on the campaign trail and says Wilson can't run from the vote.
