A Dillon County woman says her dog needs major reconstructive surgery to survive, after he was shot several times.
Robyn Rogers of Lake View is by her dog's side, day and night. "It was done with a handgun at close range according to the vet," she told us.
Last Monday, Von Dutch wandered off from Robyn's home during a storm. When she noticed her Lab of five years was gone, she immediately started searching for him, even putting out fliers all over town. "I was desperate. I was doing everything I could imagine to find him."
Two days later, she got a call that someone had found Von Dutch underneath a car on Kemper Street. "Just laying there bleeding to death. Dying," she said.
Von Dutch had been shot in the rear end several times. Robyn filed an incident report with the Lake View Police Department. "After talking with the victim, we determined there was enough probable cause to go with a warrant," said Lt. Mike Jackson.
A magistrate judge in Lake View issued a warrant against Ronald Ball on charges of ill treatment of an animal and discharging a firearm in city limits.
Wednesday afternoon, the judge arraigned Ball and set his bond at $5,000." We caught up with him after the hearing and asked him about his charges. "I will say that anybody can take out a warrant on anybody for anything," said Ball.
He's waiting for his day in court.
In the meantime, Von Dutch needs reconstructive surgery or he might not live. "I don't want to sit and watch my dog die, and they've advised me that he only has a week to live," said Rogers.
While Rogers waits for Ball's day in court, she's struggling to figure out how she'll pay for the surgery.
