COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A top political adviser is out of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen's campaign after an arrest last month on a DUI charge.

Sheheen campaign manager Trav Robertson said Tuesday that Laurin Manning's contract as the campaign's new media director has been terminated.

The Darlington County Detention Center confirmed Tuesday that Manning was jailed on a DUI charge on June 16 and released on a $997 bond.

The jail had no record of whether Manning has a lawyer. The arrest was first reported by a Columbia political blog.

Manning did not immediately respond to a voice mail, e-mail or text message. Manning ran a popular blog before going to law school and helping run President Barack Obama's 2008 campaign.
