COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The woman who chairs the South Carolina Democratic Party says she won't seek a third term.

The State newspaper reported Tuesday that Carol Fowler said she won't seek another term at the party's convention next spring.

Fowler says her decision is not related to the troubles with U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene, who surprised officials by winning the nomination in June.

Greene is facing an obscenity charge as he prepares to take on Republican U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint. Greene's finances are being investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division.

Some Democrats have complained Fowler should have done more to prevent Greene from running, but she says there was little she could do since he had the required $10,400 filing fee.

Fowler says she never planned to serve more than two terms.
