(AP) -- FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina education officials are trying to bring the military and educators together so more students can find out the education options that service in the armed forces can offer.
During a three day workshop at Fort Jackson, about 150 teachers, counselors and career advisers got a bird's eye view of Army life and the jobs held by men and women in uniform.
The Army paid for the training, and the educators got continuing education credits for attending.
Teacher Scott Hess didn't have to go to Vietnam because of his high draft number, but he was surprised to see an Army career could have paid for much of his science education.
Hartsville High School's, in Darlington County, career specialist Sara Orlowski says the program will help her evaluate all the options her students have.
