Surfside Beach town leaders met Thursday to talk about separating the police and fire departments.
Currently, emergency workers are cross-trained under the Public Safety Department.
Some are concerned they're not getting the grants they would be eligible for if the departments were separated.
The town decided to eliminate the public safety director position last month.
