Two families are homeless after their apartment burned.

Battalion Chief Jeff Delung with the city of Florence Fire Department says the fire happened at an apartment on Layton Street in North Florence Wednesday evening.

He says neighbors saw smoke and called 911.

Chief Delung tells us they don't have an official cause, but suspect a pot left on the stove caused the fire.
