SUMTER, S.C. (AP) -- The body of a 2-year-old South Carolina girl has been found in a river nearly a day after she disappeared.

Multiple media outlets reported that Natalie Faith Hasty of Lugoff was found late Saturday morning in the Wateree River in Sumter County. The girl had been missing since Friday afternoon.

Officials say the girl had been playing with her grandmother and several cousins at a landing near the US 76/378 highway bridge.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis said the family had been picnicking on the riverbank was preparing to leave when they were distracted by a dog fight.

Coroner Harvin Bullock says it appears Natalie stepped into a hole near a bridge piling and was swept away by the current.

An autopsy was planned in Newberry.
