A bird coated in oil washes up on the gulf coast shore of LA.
Governor Mark Sanford visited Myrtle Beach Friday, and we asked him about a recent proposal to hold a summit on the gulf oil spill's possible impact to our shores.
Sanford was speaking at the Chicora Rotary Club.
Wednesday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer asked the White House to hold a summit, saying east coast governors and local leaders need to know how to prepare in case oil makes its way up the Atlantic Coast.
Sanford said, "I'm open to it. I'm not adverse to it. I'll be, in essence, taking part in meetings of that sort here in the next couple of weeks when the National Governor's Association meets in July, and the governors from up and down the east coast will be there. I think on a de facto, ad hoc basis, I think that's already happening."
Sanford says he has already started talking with other governors in the southeast about the oil spill.
