AIKEN, S.C. (AP) -- The former finance director of South Carolina's social services agency has gotten an early start on a prison sentence for fraud after he was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Defense attorney Celeste Jones says Paul Moore reported to federal authorities Thursday morning.

Moore was arrested early Sunday at a restaurant where deputies said his eyes were bloodshot and he smelled of alcohol.

Moore had been out on bond waiting to report to prison to begin a 10-year sentence for stealing more than $5 million from the Department of Social Services, money he admitted spending on strippers, alcohol and gambling.

A judge had allowed Moore to remain free but ordered him to stay home and not to drink alcohol. That same judge on Wednesday ordered that Moore be taken into federal custody.
