The Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation didn't get the funding it hoped for this year.
The group met Wednesday and discussed plans to attract businesses to the Myrtle Beach area. It asked Horry County Council for $375,000, but council gave them $200,000.
But the group's chairman, Jimmy Yahnis, says they plan to raise $100,000 on their own and the county will match that. "That should be sufficient to hire adequate staff in order to carry out the functions. Is it the total amount that we want? No. But is it enough to function? Yes."
Yahnis adds the group is trying to attract call centers, manufacturers and airline-related industries this year.
