The town of Atlantic Beach owes the IRS $74,000.
Town council met Monday night and passed first reading of their new fiscal budget.
At the meeting, they found out from an audit that tax money taken out for employment wages was never sent to the IRS.
"The past continues to haunt us from '05, '06, '07, '08, and I've been here for almost two years now, and I'm a part of the blame. It is my job before I'm out of here to get these books done if I don't do anything else," Councilman Donnell Thompson told us.
Council voted to sign a contract to continue the audit..
The town will work with the IRS to come up with a payment plan to pay off the money owed plus the fees and penalties.
