(AP) -- Some environmental and preservation groups worry about the increase in the number of cruise ships docking in South Carolina.
The State newspaper reported Monday the Preservation Society of Charleston and the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League worry too many ships and their pollution will ruin Charleston's historic character.
Nearly 70 ships are expected to dock in Charleston this year and the State Ports Authority says more than 100 might use the city in future years.
Mount Pleasant preservationist Pat Sullivan says it's offensive to drive across the Ravenel bridge and see cruise ships. Sullivan says they spoil the city's skyline.
The ports authority says Charleston has nothing to worry about with the increase in cruise ships. They say the ships don't dump sewage in the harbor.
