Florence County Sheriff's Office releases checkpoint results

Press Release - A recent Traffic Safety Checkpoint conducted by the 12th Circuit Law Enforcement Network on June 11, 2010 at the intersection of US Highway 301 and State Route 403 ( Kelly's Cross Roads) near Effingham, SC, 179 vehicles were encountered and thirteen (13) tickets for moving violations consisting of the following were issued:

Open containers of alcohol 5

Possession of Alcohol by a Minor 1

Seatbelt violation 1

Driver's license violation 3

Child Restraint violation 1

Improper turn 1

Failure to Stop for Blue Light 1

In addition, four (4) subjects were arrested during this operation.

At another checkpoint conducted that same evening at North Jones Road near the intersection of E. Hampton Street and Madison Street in Olanta, SC, 78 vehicles were encountered and eight (8) tickets for moving violations were issued consisting of the following:

Open containers of alcohol 5

Equipment violations 1

Possession of Marijuana 2

Two subjects were arrested at this location.

At another location at the intersection of Hampton Street ( S.C. 341) and W. Main Street in Olanta, SC, 22 vehicles were encountered and three (3) tickets for moving violations were issued consisting of the following:

Driving under suspension 1

Driver's license violation 1

Possession of Marijuana 1

One subject was arrested at this location.

Florence County Sheriff's Office is the host agency for the 12th Circuit Law Enforcement Network, which consists of all law enforcement agencies in Marion and Florence Counties. The Network conducts Traffic Safety Checkpoints on at least a monthly basis within the two counties. The primary focus of the Checkpoints is the enforcement of traffic regulations and is designed to reduce motor vehicle accidents and fatalities within Florence and Marion counties.
