MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina county will decide whether a dirt mining operation can move forward near the Francis Marion Forest on the state's coast.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports a Berkeley County board is set to decide the issue on Tuesday.

Residents of the small Green Bay Community worry the mining operation could mean dozens of dirt trucks traveling through their neighborhood.

A company seeking a permit calls it a borrow pit and the county council four years ago changed the definition of a borrow pit to allow the operation.

The company has a mining permit from the state, but a county zoning administrator has denied permission for the operation. The zoning appeals board now considers the matter.
