The strike by pilots from Spirit Airlines has caused disruptions to thousands of air travelers across the country, including many who are flying in and out of Myrtle Beach International Airport.
Spirit Airlines is MB International's largest carrier, but all of its flights have been canceled until at least Tuesday.
"Not going to be fun driving from here to Atlantic City," said Jim Oliviero who had to rent a car to get home after his flight out of Myrtle Beach was canceled.
"They gave us a voucher for a hundred dollars. The car is costing us close to $300," Oliviero said.
The airline is still in negotiations with its pilots union which turned down a deal from the company which included $3,000 signing bonuses.
Paul Walker brought his family from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach, and he didn't find out about the strike until Saturday afternoon. His family is staying an extra week, but Walker is a physician and was scheduled to fly out Sunday to be back at work on Monday.
"I started sweating bullets thinking how in the world am I going to get home," Walker said. "I've got patients I need to see Monday morning so I was getting a little nervous."
Walker found another flight on another airline, but it cost him about three times as much, he said.
Others weren't so lucky and were forced to rent cars which turned out to be more expensive than original flights.
"The hotel room. We got to stay tonight. Plus the meals and everything else. So it'll be $500 or $600 (extra) for sure," said Oliviero, the man from New Jersey.
For William Winters from Florida, the hassles are enough for him to give up flying Spirit.
"From now on I'll fly Continental," said Winters who also had to rent a car.
"Now it's $400-something, plus the aggravation of driving. Again, thank you Spirit."
Around 40,000 passengers flew Spirit into Myrtle Beach just during the month of May, according to MYR spokeswoman, Lauren Morris.
The airline is providing customers a $100 voucher for future flights and re-imbursing them for their unflown flights until the strike is over.
