Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick says 15-year-old Kevin Samir Duarte drowned in the Intracoastal Waterway Sunday afternoon.

1st Sgt. Joe Ard with the SC Department of Natural Resources says Duarte was swimming with friends in about 8' of water between a private dock and the Socastee swing bridge when he went under.

Ard said Duarte possibly jumped from one of the pilings near the private dock.

DNR said Horry County Fire Rescue dive teams were called in to assist in the search, and by 3:55 p.m., Duarte's body had been recovered very near the spot he went under.

Duarte's death has been ruled accidental.
